Nee Nee on her own

Saturday I had the honor of watching all 3 of the little grandchildren by myself for a few hours. I had offered to take the older two overnight Saturday, then my daughter emailed and asked if I would watch the littlest one overnight so she could destress. Her stepson is coming next week so she wanted a little quiet time. Of course, I said yes. Boppa, in the meantime, had decided to travel north to watch a college baseball game. He wouldn't be back until around 10 p.m.

The first thing I did was buy a DVD player for my bedroom. Once I had all three, I basically sequestered us all in there! I lay a couple of blankets and sheets and pillows on the floor and put the baby on it. I also hauled in his Exersaucer so he had something to sit up in. I dumped a bunch of stuffed animals on the floor for the older two and brought in ALL my kiddie CDs. Then I gave them a small bowl of candy and chips and a glass of water. They were quite content for a long time.

The only "crisis" moment I had was when the 1 yr. old started to have a BM so i put him on the toilet, then Granddaughter decided she needed to go potty (luckily I had an extra potty chair -- her brother was on a kiddie seat on the real toilet). Then baby decided he DID NOT want me to put him down and fussed while I was taking care of the other two. At least it saved me a messy diaper, although the noise was pretty jarring.

Then the next day, when we told the older two they were going home, my granddaughter set up such a caterwauling such as I haven't heard since my older daughter was a year old and didn't want to go home! She 'sup 'supped all the way home, just bawling. "I don't want to go home." "I want to stay." "I want to sleep at Nee Nee's" "I want to go see the animals." Nothing would make her happy. When we got her home, her daddy got her to calm down with Cheetos and chocolate milk. Talk about breaking my heart! I mean, I want to be loved, but I don't want her to get so upset when it's time to go home! I've been on the other side of that. My daughter tried to throw herself out of the car on several occasions when I went to pick her up from my mom's. Made me feel I was the evil witch!

Well, we will have them over again Friday. This time just the two of them. We'll see how that goes.
